Fernandes broke his silence by releasing a stunning statement on social media.
The playmaker, who with Portuguese talisman Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer extravaganza, wrote: “Sad, frustrated, and disillusioned.
“This group of players made my expectations high, not only for the quality, but also for the fact of the incredible group that we built over these years.

But Fernandes came under fire after making the social media post – leading to him taking evasive action and muting replies.

Another brutally claimed: “He knows everybody knows he is a selfish player sabotaging for gaining his own spotlight.”
A third added: “Bruno Fernandes locking his comments section shows that everything said about him and his fellow midfielders during this World Cup is true.”

Katia Aveiro liked an Instagram post which read: “Bruno Fernandes looks like a different player in the national team jersey…
“When needs a leader the most, he disappears from the game and leaves the responsibility on others’ shoulders.
“Lots of talent, lots of media attention, but where’s the decisiveness in the big moments?
“The fans expect a star who steps up when the pressure mounts, not someone who vanishes when the game gets tough.”
