WEST HAM suffered a big blow to their survival hopes as they were beaten by European-chasing Brentford.

The hosts faced the relegation battlers, having not won at home since January.

The Bees took the lead after just 15 minutes as defender Konstantinos Mavropanos put through his own net.

Mavropanos thought he had made amends for his error as he headed past Caoimhin Kelleher, only for VAR to rule it out for a narrow offside.

Taty Castellanos hit the post for the second time of the match as the Hammers continued to push for an equaliser.

The Hammers were punished for their missed chances in the second half as Igor Thiago converted from 12 yards after Malick Diouf conceded the penalty.

They were then denied again by the woodwork as Crysensio Summerville rattled the crossbar.

Mikel Damsgaard wrapped up the result in the 82nd minute as he placed an effort past Mads Hermansen.

The win for Brentford sees them climb above Brighton into 6th place, while West Ham stay just two points above the bottom three.
