The head coach told BBC Radio Humberside : “He felt yesterday his calf a little bit so he will go on MRI.

“We are waiting [for] news and also we made one plan for him, six weeks plan, that he has a rhythm of games.

“He played for the Under-21s and then together with the club now we will decide what we will do with him in January.

“[Whether] he will stay with us [or] he will fight for his place, so he will continue forward maybe, to change clubs, but we will see.

“This is also a question for all clubs. Right now, in those [academy] games he showed something but I don’t know if it’s enough for the Championship.

“This is something what maybe I need to decide we will do with him.

“Whether he will stay or he will change.”

Williams has only played five minutes of senior football this season, coming on as a sub in his second match, Hull’s third in the Championship.

Since then he has been left on the bench four times and simply out of the squad for another 11.

In May he was handed a 14-month prison sentence which was suspended for two years, , and a load of community service.

He left United having made 51 appearances over two seasons, all but one of those coming under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Williams represented as a left-back at Under-20 and Under-21 level but left on loan in 2021 and has nosedived ever since.

He was a regular for Norwich City in 2021/22 but wasn’t favoured by .

United loaned Williams to for the 2023/24 campaign after less than 1,000 minutes whilst at Portman Road.

He spent a year without a club

That now seems to be coming to a premature end with Jakirovic saying: “We are speaking now because generally also if we can swap some positions then we will do that.

“If he we cannot we will continue like this but also it’s a common decision what we will do with some positions.”

Asked if Williams was understanding of the situation, Jakirovic replied: “Yes of course.

“I cannot say he now looks much better than when he arrived here.

“But also for the Championship you need even better level for sure.”
