It is alleged her boyfriend, Royce Moser, 18, stabbed her to death.
Heintz’s family had contacted police for a welfare check after she failed to return to campus as expected on Wednesday.
The cops located her Cherokee near a library where they noticed some blood inside before finding her body.
She had multiple stab wounds – many in the chest – court documents reveal.

Royce Moser, 18, is facing a charge of criminal homicide in the death of Karoline Heintz, who played soccer for PennWest California.
During a press conference, Pennsylvania State Trooper Rocco Gagliardi said: “They’re a younger couple talking about how relationships can continue maybe in a college setting.
“Somewhere that conversation probably goes a little bit south.
“Towards the end of that conversation between boyfriend and girlfriend, he goes inside and grabs a large knife from the kitchen.”
The teen allegedly told Heintz he had something for her, allowing him to run inside and grab the weapon.
In a subsequent police interview, Royce said he had a “demon take over” him.
After the stabbing it is understood Heintz’s body fell from the car before Royce dragged her to the trunk, court documents reveal.
He then allegedly called his mother for help moving the car.
When his mother arrived, she told him to pull the car into the garage and they would clean it with disinfectant, police said.
She then reportedly gave him latex gloves and told him to follow her car.
While together on the way home after ditching the car off, Royce Moser allegedly admitted to his mother that he “stabbed the victim with a knife from his house.”
When they got back to the mother’s home, she told her son to “take a bath and then shower” and change his clothes, police said.
She put the knife in a garbage bag to be thrown out with the trash outside her home and washed his clothes.
Police later executed a search warrant at Rachel’s home and located a chef’s knife in a garbage bag, according to court documents.
Gagliardi continued: “It is more of an unfortunate event, 18-year-old girl, young soccer star ready to explore life, ready to start college, now can no longer get to do that.”
Royce and his mother were arrested on Thursday morning.
Moser was charged with criminal homicide, two counts of tampering with evidence, two counts of abuse of a corpse and obstruction.
His 57-year-old mother was charged with tampering, obstruction, hindering the apprehension of a fugitive and abuse of a corpse.
The school said in a statement: “PennWest University is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Karoline Heintz, who was a first-year student at the California campus.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy.”
