Motor neurone disease (MND) typically affects adults over 50; however, notable individuals such as the late Rob Burrow, who passed away at 41, and former England rugby union captain Lewis Moody, who died at 47, have also suffered from it.
Sport-loving Kyle was participating in Taekwondo but noticed that his left arm was not functioning properly in March 2023.
After undergoing several scans and tests, his parents, Melanie and Mark, received the devastating diagnosis in January that he had the degenerative condition MND.
Kyle’s family was informed that he was the youngest person in the UK to receive this diagnosis.
His family announced that their “little superhero” tragically passed away just ten months after his diagnosis, surrounded by “those who cherished him.”
The family expressed: “We will miss you dearly, buddy, and we love you more than words can convey.
“We can easily envision you up there challenging your two grandmothers and grandfather to a game of Connect 4, bringing smiles to their faces just as you made us smile countless times before.
“We will think of you every single day, beautiful boy.”
Kyle’s family mentioned that he “fought with all his strength, but the illness ultimately became insurmountable.”
Parents Mark and Melanie added: “There’s no way to express how we’re feeling… we’re utterly heartbroken.”
Kyle had been at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital, where he spent time playing Connect 4 with his brother Liam, 18.
Mum Melanie commented in August: “You feel terrible, really, hopeless, because they tell you that there’s nothing they can do to treat it, or there’s no possible cure.
“We are obviously very desperate. We are living in the hospital. Our entire lives are on hold,” she continued.
“It’s quite frightening because when we arrived, he was walking, and now he can’t do anything.”
A fundraising appeal raised over £10,000.
A family spokesperson stated: “The support has been incredible. The messages, in particular, are really comforting the family as Melanie and Mark are reading them.”
“Kyle’s parents – Melanie and Mark – want to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone for their kindness and generosity, as well as to the staff at Noah’s Ark, where Kyle has been receiving care.”
