A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has gone missing after entering the water in the Lake District with a desperate search now underway.
Cops and emergency services scrambled to the scene after reports of a person in difficulty at High Dam Tarn, near Windermere, just after 12.30pm today.
High Dam is an artificial tarn that is a popular walking area for tourists and locals in the beauty spot.
A 17 year-old boy remains missing having entered the water, the force added.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard and local Mountain Rescue teams have also been involved in the search.
Specialist teams are still conducting shoreline, surface and sub-surface searches.
In a full statement on the incident, a Cumbria Police spokesperson said: “Cumbria Constabulary received a call at 12:32pm from a member of the public indicating someone was in difficulty in the water at High Dam Tarn.
“A multi-agency rescue operation was subsequently launched with teams deploying from Cumbria Constabulary, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard and local Mountain Rescue Teams.
“A 17-year-old male is currently missing having entered the water.
“A number of teams remain on scene and are continuing shoreline, surface and sub-surface searches at this time.”
