Zamorano made significant progress on the international stage when she claimed the interim WBC Atomweight title in June.
She overcame Japanese boxer Mika Iwakawa, 42, for the interim title, which was later upgraded to the full championship on October 15th after the previous champion, Tina Rupprecht, announced her retirement.
However, the true test of her champion status came when she faced Sana Hazuki on Saturday.
As with most of ‘La Magnifica’s fights, the match took place in her hometown of Hermosillo.
Hazuki entered the fight with a record of 13-12-1, boasting six KOs compared to Zamorano’s one, presenting a challenge to the Mexican’s technical prowess against significant knockout power.
At 41 years old, Hazuki had 24 years and 13 more bouts than her younger opponent, but that experience could not prevent Zamorano from achieving victory by points.
Her aggressive, rapid striking established an early rhythm in the match, leaving her older opponent struggling to keep up with the local hero.
Despite creating several knockout opportunities for her opponent, Zamorano was unable to secure her second career knockout.
The decision after 10 rounds was unanimous, with judges scoring the bout 100-90 in favor of the young champion.
Only time will reveal what lies ahead for the rising star, who will turn 18 in December.
Born in 2007, Zamorano turned professional at 15 after compiling an amateur record of 53-4.
She was just 117 days shy of the all-time record held by Puerto Rican super lightweight Wilfred Benitez, who was 17 years and 176 days old when he won the WBA and lineal titles against Antonio Cervantes in 1976.
