BIRMINGHAM CITY’S impressive plans to construct a new £3 billion stadium will receive backing from the creator of Peaky Blinders.
Club officials have proposed this project as the centerpiece of an extraordinary Birmingham Sports Quarter development, located just a mile from the club’s home for the past 119 years, St Andrews.

The initiative, referred to as the “jewel of the Midlands,” will be designed by London-based architects Heatherwick Studio in collaboration with Kansas-based firm Manica.
Steven Knight, the creator of TV shows such as SAS Rogue Heroes and House of Guinness, as well as a lifelong Birmingham supporter, has volunteered his expertise as a consultant for the project.
During a Regional Investment Summit at Edgbaston Stadium on Tuesday, Knight stated to Insidermedia : “I wanted to provide the architects with insights about what fans will appreciate and what they won’t.”
“This stadium symbolizes the past 150 years and hopefully will be a lasting presence for another 150 years to come.”
“I believe we are going to create something truly special on an international level.”
The Sports Quarter will be built on a 48-acre site, previously known as Birmingham Wheels.
The council sold the land to the club, which is owned by Tom Wagner’s Knighthead Capital Management, last year.
The icon also became a minority owner of the Blues as part of the agreement in 2023.
Regarding the plans, Wagner remarked: “We don’t aim to become a national stadium.
“However, we certainly aspire for it to be a venue that hosts national and international events.
“The design will be worthy of that. It will be one of the most talked-about stadium designs ever when we unveil it in about a month.”
This project, located in Bordesley, east Birmingham, will also contribute to revitalizing a socially disadvantaged area and will include a new tram link from the city center.
