Budget UK airline with £15 flights and new European holiday destinations named best in the world

A CHEAP UK airline has won a prestigious award naming it the best in the world.

At the recent annual Routes Awards 2025, which recognised the world’s best route networks including airlines, and destinations, was named the best airline.

This is in part thanks to the airline also recently launching a number of new destinations including Cape Verde and Tbilisi in Georgia.

According to Aviation Week , Shane Lord, easyJet’s director of network, strategy and fleet, said: “We are very proud to have won the Airline award, which recognises easyJet’s strategic network expansion, our commitment to connectivity and strong partnerships with airports and tourism boards around and beyond.

“We celebrate our 30th birthday this year, having in that time changed the way people fly by democratising travel and making it accessible to a wider range of people.”

Since launching, the airline has carried more than 1.2billion people and today, it operates over 1,100 routes across 150 airports, in 35 countries.

Flights can be found for as cheap as £14.99 to destinations such as Split in Croatia, Salzburg in Austria, Berlin in Germany, Corfu in Greece, Sardinia in Italy and Malta.

A new service to Sal, Cape Verde from Gatwick launched at the end of March, making it the airline’s first service to sub-Sahara service.

The airline also offers holiday packages tocombining both flights and hotel stays.

Sal is an island located off of the west coast of Africa known for its hot climate, with temperatures sitting around 24C to 30C for most of the year.

The sea off of the island is also warm, with temperatures usually between 23C and 27C between November and June.

Beaches along the island’s coasts, feature golden sands and crystal waters.

The beach is located in a town by the same name, popular with holidaymakers thanks to several resorts which are within walking distance of the beach.

Across the town, visitors can spot numerous pastel-coloured buildings and the streets are lined with and bars.

Seasonal flights between London Luton Airport and in Georgia, then started in April, with the service operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia and the ideal spot for history buffs as the city is known for a mix of medieval, classical and Soviet architecture and influence.

Visitors can head to the Old Town, known as Kala, and explore narrow, winding cobblestone alleys with small cafes and churches.

There is also the Narikala Fortress, which dates back to the fourth century and features amazing views across the city and the Mtkvari River.

Foodies will also have a great time too – make sure to try khachapuri, a type of bread filled with cheese and khinkali, a type of meat dumpling, with potatoes, mushrooms or cheese.

A number of other airlines and airports were also recognised by the Routes World Awards 2025 including the overall winner, Athens International Airport in .

According to Aviation Week, Athens International Airport’s director of communications and marketing Ioanna Papadopoulou said: “We are super excited to have been presented with the highly prestigious Routes World Award.

“This award is a recognition of our team’s hard work and a celebration of dedication, vision, partnership and teamwork!”

The best destination then went to in America, with the award recognising the destination’s visitor growth and connectivity.
