Benue LG Election Appeals Panel fixes May 26 for hearing

Published on May 16, 2025 at 10:26 AM

The Benue State Local Government Election Appeals Panel convened on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, at the NBA House in Abuja to deliberate on various appeals arising from the recent local government election petition tribunal decisions.

Presided over by Honorable Justice D.E. Gyuse, the panel acknowledged the high volume of appeals, numbering hundreds.

In response, the panel announced a procedural adjustment, stating that it would be more effective to group appeals according to local government areas rather than entertain individual councillor petitions separately.

The panel has scheduled Monday, May 26, 2025, as the date for all parties involved to reconvene.

All appellants and respondents are expected to have fully prepared and exchanged the necessary documentation ahead of the hearing.

On the set date, parties must be ready to present and adopt their arguments without exception.

In a related development, the panel also heard the Labour Party’s appeal concerning the chairmanship of Kwande Local Government Area.

However, a judgment in that particular case was reserved and will be communicated to the concerned parties at a later date.
