In recent years, he had the evening slot on Mondays and Fridays in addition to a Sunday afternoon show.
Executive producer of Radio Guernsey, Michelle Danielle, told BBC News that he was “one of a kind” and “a huge part of us will always be missing”.
While Isla Blatchford said John had helped raise £40,000 for a number of charities over the past 20 years.
She said: “I think one of the best things about John was his ability to get people on board to help raise money for all sorts of causes.”
