TRIBUTES have poured in for a much-loved BBC star who has died at the age of 87.
The BBC personality who appeared in a Doctor Who documentary was described as someone “who truly lived his best life.”

Helicopter pilot ‘Mad’ Mike Smith has passed away, with his daughter confirming the news over the weekend.
Mike flew the aircraft featured in the 2020 documentary The Cruel Sea: Surviving Fury of the Deep, a “making-of” documentary about the popular sci-fi series.
The film was included as bonus material on the DVD release of the animated special starring the Second Doctor.
BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Chris Chapman announced the news on X, writing: “Sad news to share – his daughter has just let me know that helicopter pilot ‘Mad’ Mike Smith has died, aged 87.
“He spent his final day driving himself to the pub and winning at pool.
“We shot with Mike for our Fury from the Deep doc. He was one of my favourite contributors. RIP”
