Hundreds of supporters on Thursday thronged the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi, to welcome the State Commissioner for Finance, Dr Yakubu Adamu, following his return from Abuja.
Adamu arrived in the state after the Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail in an alleged terrorism financing case currently before the court.
DAILY POST reports that supporters, drawn from different parts of the state, received the commissioner with chants and prayers, expressing confidence in his innocence as the trial continued.
Some of them told journalists that the court’s decision to grant bail was reassuring, urging the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to run its course.
Addressing the gathering later at his family residence in Bauchi, Adamu expressed gratitude to the people of the state and other well-wishers for their prayers and support.
He urged his supporters to remain law-abiding and to continue to respect constituted authority.
The commissioner also appealed to residents to sustain their support for the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed, reiterating the government’s commitment to accelerating development across the state.
DAILY POST reports that the case remains pending before the Federal High Court, while Adamu is expected to continue complying with the bail conditions.
Recall that the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Dr Yakubu Adamu, was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations bordering on terrorism financing.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had preferred a 10-count terrorism financing and money laundering charge against Adamu and three others, said to be top Bauchi State civil servants.
The charges, which are yet to be determined by the court, prompted heightened public interest both within and outside Bauchi State, given his position in the state government.
At his arraignment, the court granted him bail after considering submissions from both the prosecution and defence counsel, pending the continuation of the trial.
Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, last Wednesday, admitted the commissioner to bail in the sum of N100 million.
Also admitted to bail in the same sum were Balarabe Abdullahi Ilelah, Aminu Mohammed Bose and Kabiru Yahaya Mohammed, standing trial on alleged terrorism financing to the tune of $9.7 million.
