⚽Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest preview

The all-England tie is perfectly poised heading into Thursday, where Nottingham Forest or Aston Villa will confirm their Europa League final spot.

It’s the second leg visitors, Forest, in the driving seat at the moment as they bring a 1-0 lead to Villa Park after last week’s tie.

And they do so in quite remarkable form after thumping Chelsea a few days ago and having won five games on the spin, extending their unbeaten run on Monday to ten games.

They were 2-0 up at Stamford Bridge at half time with their second string side before bringing three big-hitters on at the break to help them to a 3-1 win and kick them six points clear of relegation now. That’s now 12 goals in their last three league games.

The only downside was the nasty head injury suffered by Morgan Gibbs-White who was one of those to come on at HT. We wait to see his involvement here.

For Villa, it’s three defeats on the spin as their poor form has arrived at the worst possible time.

Unai Emery is a master in this competition so you can’t write them off but losing to a hapless Spurs side last time out will do nothing for their confidence here.

They did beat Forest in the league here in January though and have won all of their last four meetings at Villa Park. This one will be tough though.

Forest on Fire

Ten games unbeaten for Nottingham Forest. Make it eleven and they’re into a European final with a shot at Champions League football next season.

There’s nothing from the last couple of weeks from an Aston Villa point of view that suggests they can turn this around – apart from having a boss that is a genius in this competition.

Expecting plenty of huff and puff in front of a rowdy Villa Park but Forest can sneak through and book a spot in the final.
