ASTON VILLA are stepping up their pursuit of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

New Blues boss Xabi Alonso has stated he wants to assess the Senegal international during pre-season, though Jackson is not part of the initial squad which today.
Jackson is still on holiday having reached the last-32 of the World Cup with Senegal.
However, team-mate Jorrel Hato, who reached the same stage with the Netherlands, is on the plane with the Blues squad.
Chelsea say several senior players are due to join up with the squad, touring Sydney and then Asia, later in pre-season once their holidays end.
