JOSE MOURINHO always liked to put pressure on Arsene Wenger during his days as Chelsea manager.

Now, before even being confirmed as the new boss, Mourinho has piled pressure on this summer.

on Tuesday night has fired the starting gun for a potentially record-breaking summer transfer window, and Arteta needs to be at the forefront of that race.

Despite lifting their first Premier League title in 22 years last month, cannot afford to sit still if they want to continue competing at the top of the table.

Even Wenger failed to win consecutive titles during his reign in North London, in part due to of a lack of backing in the summers that followed.

Arsenal chiefs Stan and Josh Kroenke have already hinted they are willing to spend big to keep Arsenal at the top of the tree next season, but Real Madrid’s Alvarez bid will send alarm bells around N5.

Alvarez, 26, is one of a host of attacking talents Arsenal are tracking this summer, but seeing knock back their neighbour’s £130m bid for the superstar will have been an eye-opener for the Gunners.

that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last summer if they are to sign Alvarez.

Of course, politics are at play in Real Madrid’s punt for Alvarez, given that president

And it is no surprise that Mourinho, who is expected to be officially announced as Real Madrid boss this week, was happy to have another big name attached to his own.

But, for Arsenal, it is a sign that this transfer window is going to be a hectic one.

Atletico have already , pointing to the Argentine’s £431MILLION release clause as the only way to get him out of the Metropolitano.

Meanwhile , another player Arsenal have tracked for some time.

All of this is snowballing in advance of the transfer window even opening.

The Premier League window doesn’t open until next Monday, while most other European leagues – including LaLiga – can’t actually make any of their business official until July 1.

Add to that the madness of a World Cup, and you can see how manic this transfer window could be for the Gunners.

Julian Alvarez now finds himself in a Stateside limbo as he tries to focus on the World Cup amid a transfer saga that could send him to Atletico’s fiercest rivals.

And Arteta may have to put other players in a similar position if he wants to pip the competition to the best players this summer.

is set to play a big part in England’s World Cup campaign, but it is

World Cup performances often inflate prices too.

If Arsenal can wrap up a deal before that fee starts to rise, they can save themselves a pretty penny.

Arteta doesn’t just have a fight on his hands to sign the best players this summer, but also to keep his own.

Reports have already emerged that – another spanner in the works from Madrid.

Furthermore, Premier League rivals are already strengthening their squads around Arsenal.

and are expected to bring in a host of new names as the board get behind Michael Carrick following his third placed finish.

And second-placed as they look to strengthen their midfield and close the gap on Arsenal.

Arteta needs to ensure that his business this summer pushes Arsenal further away from the chasing pack.

A new left winger will be top of the priority list, as it has been for some time now.

and have both been terrific assets for Arteta during his time in the Emirates dugout.

But it is clear that Arsenal can upgrade that position to make themselves a more threatening attacking outfit next term.

Arteta had been working towards lifting the Premier League title for almost seven years, but he cannot rest on his laurels now that he has achieved that success.

A strong summer for the Gunners would put them in contention for the once again and may even begin a dynasty.

Get it wrong, and Arsenal could slip away after all the hard work, time and money invested in their squad.
