ARSENAL finally stopped the rot and got their season back on track after a gruelling Champions League quarter-final win against Sporting Lisbon.

It was another far from vintage performance from Mikel Arteta‘s side, despite being bolstered by returns from a number of players who missed the FA Cup defeat to Southampton at the weekend.

The Gunners survived an early scare in Lisbon when Maximiliano Araújo crashed a shot against the bar inside six minutes.

David Raya then needed to make a number of fine saves to deny the hosts an opener before Kai Havertz climbed off the bench to snatch an injury-time winner.

The German was teed up with a superb pass by fellow sub Gabriel Martinelli, with a composed touch with his right foot setting him up perfectly before slotting home the winner with his left to bring a crucial 1-0 lead back to the Emirates for the second leg.
