ARNE SLOT held back tears when he was asked to reflect on Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson’s comments about Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese striker and his brother Andre Silva tragically died in a car crash in July.

And, in an emotional interview, before Scotland sealed World Cup qualification by beating Denmark on Tuesday.

He said: “I’ve hid it well, but today I’ve been in bits.

“I know the age I’m at, this could be my last chance to go to the World Cup.

“I couldn’t get my mate out of my head today.

“We spoke so much about going to the World Cup. I know he’ll be smiling over me today. I’m so glad it’s ended up this way.”

was asked about Robertson’s thoughts when holding his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool facing Nottingham Forest this weekend.

And the Dutchman was close to tears when he opened up on the impact of Anfield icon Jota’s death.

Slot said: “I saw the interview as well, live, and I know that it is an issue for us, which I think is completely normal.

“But, in these moments of time, I always think about how it must feel for his wife and children because it’s so, so, so, so much harder for them than it is for us.

“We miss the player and the person. That is completely clear.”

Slot also conceded that have struggled to turn the tide in games without being able to bring Jota off the bench.

He added: “Last season, we were 1-0 down at Forest. But it only took him one minute to score the equaliser.

“We haven’t managed to come back as many times as last season after being a goal down. He definitely played his part in that.”
