The Nigerian Army has deployed 170 Forest Guards to the Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State to strengthen security in vulnerable communities.
The move is part of ongoing efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities in the North-West region.
The deployment was operationalised on Tuesday at the Army Headquarters in Kangiwa, Arewa LGA.
The guards will operate under the control of the Nigerian Army and have been provided with motorcycles, sleeping kits, and essential food supplies to improve mobility and operational readiness in forested and remote areas.
Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the intervention aims to enhance rapid-response capabilities and sustain field operations in areas often exploited by criminal elements.
The operationalisation also coincides with increased collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the Kebbi State Government to restore peace and security.
Residents in affected areas are expected to benefit from improved patrol coverage and protection against attacks.
