Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for its steadfast dedication to protecting lives and property throughout the nation, in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor expressed his commendation during a special church service commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that President Tinubu has implemented significant measures to enhance Nigeria’s security framework through improved intelligence coordination, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, better welfare for military personnel, and the provision of modern equipment for the armed forces.

Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor stated that the Federal Government’s initiatives are already producing positive outcomes, contributing to the restoration of public trust in the nation's security system.

He called on Nigerians to support government initiatives by fostering peace, unity, and patriotism, asserting that collective responsibility is crucial in creating a strong, united, and indivisible nation.

Characterizing Armed Forces Remembrance Day as a time for gratitude, reflection, and renewed national duty, Governor Abiodun noted that the occasion is not only to honor fallen heroes but also to recommit to the values of selflessness, bravery, and sacrifice that they defended with their lives.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the welfare of active duty officers, veterans, and the families of fallen heroes, stressing that supporting them is not merely an act of charity but a national duty owed to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and stability.

In his sermon titled “Greater Love: The Sacrifice of the Servicemen,” the Bishop of Christ Chapel of Grace and Mercy, Ven. Dr. Samson Popoola, stated that there is no greater demonstration of love than the sacrifices made by servicemen and women who gave their lives for the country.

He remarked that their sacrifices extend beyond the battlefield, encompassing prolonged separations from family and the denial of personal comforts.

“We have gathered here to pay tribute to the fallen heroes, those living with disabilities, and those still serving. Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a time for sober reflection, as the peace Nigerians enjoy today was achieved at a significant cost,” he said.

Ven. Popoola described sacrifice as the true expression of love, urging Christians to offer living, holy, and sin-free sacrifices to God. He referenced Esther 4:16, highlighting Queen Esther’s selfless sacrifice for her people, alongside lessons from the biblical story of Abel and Cain.

Addressing the responsibilities of the living, the cleric stated that the government must continue to enhance support for the families of fallen heroes, while citizens should also extend compassion, care, and appreciation to them.

He encouraged serving personnel not to feel disheartened, assuring them that their sacrifices and contributions to national peace and security are recognized by a higher power.

Highlights of the commemorative service included special prayers for Nigeria, the Ogun State Government, Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Armed Forces, political leaders, religious leaders, and traditional rulers.
