Armed bandits attack Benue community, injure residents, loot property

Published on June 08, 2025 at 07:24 AM

Tension gripped Chito town in Adzendeshi Council Ward of Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State, on Saturday, following a brutal attack by armed bandits in the early hours of the day.

The attackers, said to be over ten in number, reportedly stormed the Tse-Mamkaa Compound at around 2:26 a.m., unleashing terror on the residents for about one hour and thirty minutes.

They beat family members, ransacked homes, and made away with a variety of valuables, including clothes, footwear, food items, and kitchen supplies, down to basics such as salt, seasoning cubes, and flour.

In a formal complaint addressed to relevant authorities, Dr. Isaac H. Mamkaa, a lecturer at the Department of Political Science, College of Education, Katsina-Ala, confirmed that two family members, Timothy T. Mamkaa and Nathaniel Mwuesega Mamkaa, the head of the family, sustained injuries in the assault.

The household of their grandfather, Kur Sev Adudu, was also not spared.

Mamkaa raised concern over a warning reportedly issued by the assailants during the attack.

According to him, the criminals vowed to return for a second, more devastating assault.

“In view of the above... I appeal for your timely response and/or proactive action to avert the impending/looming calamity,”; he pleaded in his letter to the authorities.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement or make any arrests.
