APC’s Elegbeji wins Ogun bye-election with 41,237 votes

The candidate of ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency bye-election, Adesola Elegbeji has been declared winner having secured 41,237 votes.

The election, held on Saturday, was to replace late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the former lawmaker representing the constituency, who passed away in January after a brief illness.

Announcing the result, Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Kazeem Bello, revealed that the APC candidate polled a total of 41,237 votes, while PDP had 14,324 and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) managed only 289 votes.

Breaking down the results in the early hours of Sunday, Bello announced that in Ikenne Local Government, the number of accredited voters was 17,477 and APC secured a landslide, polling 10,227 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailed with 5,595 and ADC with 73 votes.

In Remo North, with the accredited voters at 9,374, APC garnered 8,052 votes, while PDP had 992, ADC 37 and ADP 43 votes. And in Sagamu with accredited voters at 32,574, the ruling party gathered 22,958 and PDP 7,737 and ADC 179 votes.

The INEC REC announced the APC candidate, Elegbeji as winner, saying she had fulfilled all requirements of the Electoral Act, having secured the highest number of votes.

Other returning officers who took part in the collation process were Richard Abayomi Sobayo (Sagamu), Akeem Adekunle Makinde (Ikenne), and Matthew Wheto (Remo North).
