- Reasoning Behind the Decision
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State has declared a 50 percent reduction in the cost of nomination forms for women and individuals with disabilities (PWDs) in anticipation of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for December 13.
Speaking to reporters in Maiduguri, the state chairman of the party, Bello Ayuba, stated that this decision was made to provide the two groups with a 50% discount from the standard fee, thereby encouraging greater participation and fostering inclusion.
He mentioned that the party has set the cost of councillorship nomination forms for women and PWDs at N250,000, while the chairmanship forms will be priced at N1 million. The standard fees for nomination are N500,000 for councillorship and N2 million for chairmanship aspirants.
Ayuba explained that this adjustment was made after discussions with APC leadership in other states and was influenced by the current economic challenges and security issues faced in Borno.
“We took into account the unique challenges our people encounter, especially women and persons with disabilities, due to the insurgency and the overall economic climate. This reduction is our way of ensuring equal opportunities for everyone,” Ayuba emphasized.
