The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reminded Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that a suit regarding the tenure of reinstated local government chairmen and councillors is still pending before the Federal High Court.

The Osun APC shared this information in a statement by Tajudeen Lawal, its state chairman, on Monday.

In the statement, the APC accused the state government and the PDP of attempting to mislead the public following recent legal developments concerning local government administration in the state.

The party claimed that the state government started spreading falsehoods after the PDP-led administration faced a setback regarding the reinstatement of APC council officials.

The APC stated, β€œthe state government has failed to inform the public about Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/147/2025, which pertains to the determination of the tenure of the reinstated chairmen and councillors.”

The party noted that the matter was last addressed in court in November and was postponed until February 2026.

The APC further explained, β€œthe suit also seeks judicial clarification on whether the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission has the authority to conduct another local government election during the current tenure of the reinstated officials.”

Additionally, it remarked that, β€œthe PDP-led government has misled the public by labeling an event held on 22 February 2025 as local government elections, asserting that residents have begun to understand the difference between a legitimate election and an illegal declaration.”

The APC alleged that statements attributed to state officials, including the Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi, were β€œa deliberate effort to provoke innocent members of the public, and these claims do not represent the current legal realities.”

The statement indicated that Governor Adeleke and his aides are misrepresenting facts surrounding the ongoing crisis affecting local government administration and cautioned that such actions could jeopardize peace in the state.

It emphasized that the pending suit also seeks confirmation that the reinstated chairmen and councillors are entitled to a three-year tenure, having held their first sitting in February 2025.

The party urged security agencies and the public to remain vigilant, warning of potential disruptions linked to alleged threats by the state government and some PDP members to resort to violence.

It referenced an incident in Otan-Aiyegbaju within the Boluwaduro local government area following the recent Supreme Court ruling, calling for the protection of citizens and political supporters.

The APC, while appealing to parents and guardians to advise their children against engaging in political violence, urged its members and supporters to maintain peace as the legal matters regarding the local government councils continue to develop.
