The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has condemned the alleged assault involving an aide to the state governor, who is attached to the Office of the Chief of Staff, and a serving councillor. This condemnation follows the circulation of a viral video depicting the incident.
Civil society organizations, including Amnesty International and the Gombe State Network of Civil Society Organizations, have also denounced the incident, demanding justice and calling for the immediate dismissal of the involved aide.
The viral footage shows a governor’s aide identified as Adamu Abdullahi Danko allegedly assaulting a councillor named Abdulrahman Abubakar, who appeared defenseless during the confrontation.
In response to this situation, the APC, through a statement by its state publicity secretary, Moses Kyari, expressed profound concern over the video, asserting that the party unequivocally condemns all forms of violence and unlawful behavior.
“This incident is deeply concerning and contrary to the core values, discipline, and democratic culture of the APC,” Kyari stated.
He revealed that the party has initiated a comprehensive internal investigation into the matter and has summoned all individuals involved to determine the cause of the altercation.
According to him, this initiative aims to uphold accountability, preserve the party’s integrity, and prevent a recurrence of such behavior.
Kyari emphasized that the actions depicted in the viral video were taken at the individual's discretion and not under the instruction, approval, or authorization of the party or any government office.
“Taking the law into one’s own hands is entirely unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he added.
The APC spokesman praised the Chief of Staff to the Gombe State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari, for his prompt decision to suspend the aide, Adamu Danko, pending the investigation's outcome, describing this action as a clear indication of commitment to discipline and justice.
He assured the public that the investigation would be thorough and transparent, adhering to the APC constitution, relevant laws, and established procedures.
Kyari noted that the inquiry would examine all material facts surrounding the incident, including the circumstances leading up to it and a review of an audio message allegedly connected to the altercation.
