, 35, thankfully came through the terrifying incident without serious injury, and was even able to come on as a substitute during the second half,.

But after the match, Townsend found his knee swelling and felt the need to aid his recovery with some specially prepared meals.

In an Instagram video the 13-cap star, who is no stranger to a quirky meal, said: “Over the next 24 hours, this is everything I ate to give my body what it needs to recover, support the inflammation process, and get me moving again without having to reach for medication.

“First up, six whole eggs. High-quality protein to support muscle repair.

“Then I started loading up on polyphenol-rich foods: blueberries, extra virgin olive oil, and raw cacao, which is packed with flavanols. These plant compounds have antioxidant and inflammation-reducing properties.

“Next, smoked salmon, packed with omega-3s, which are involved in inflammatory signalling and supporting muscle recovery.

“Raw cheese gives me calcium to support bone health. And then an orange gives me vitamin C, essential for making collagen.”

Far from being done, Townsend then revealed his painstakingly prepared second meal.

Andros Townsend's quirky diet

  • Six hard-boiled eggs, six cans of sardines and a steak
  • including Indian healing clay and unrefined virgin coconut oil
  • A tupperware box of
  • Nutrient dense bone broth
  • Tamarind for ‘increased fluoride excretion’
  • Quinoa, pineapple, blueberries, bananas, dates, raw honey and cacao
  • Chicken feet

“Wild-caught salmon again with tomatoes,” he began. “Tomatoes give me more powerful antioxidants as well as vitamin C.

“And then one of my favourites for this situation: chicken feet slow-cooked for eight hours in a soup.

“This gives me collagen from the meat and gelatin from the liquid, rich in amino acids like glycine and proline, the building blocks associated with collagen-rich tissues like tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.

“And I paired that with kiwi for another big hit of vitamin C”.

Townsend finished his video by vowing: “Food is medicine.”

The shocking roller incident immediately went viral, with Townsend subsequently to explain what actually happened.

He said: “I didn’t see it coming. It was at half-time, we were going out to warm up. I saw two rollers on either side of the pitch.

“I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’ve never seen that before in my career, what are they doing?’

“But we got called to warm up. Didn’t think anything of it. The next I saw him was when I was literally underneath him and thankfully no serious damage.

“A couple of bumps and bruises but managed to walk away unscathed, luckily. Every time I see it, I’m cringing, I’m in disbelief. When I sent it to my kids, my kids thought it was AI.

“Literally, I had to explain to them, for the next ten minutes, that it was real. It’s horrible to watch back and to see what could have been but.

“Thankfully, I was fortunate I did manage to fall onto the floor at the right time, so nothing snapped as the roller went over me. And I’m here today to laugh about and tell the story.”
