A civil society organization, The Osun Masterminds (TOM), has expressed its sorrow over the tragic killings of several residents in Akinlalu town, located in the Ife North local government area of Osun State.
During the October State of the State Address on Wednesday, the group's Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, conveyed their profound sadness regarding what they termed a brutal attack on defenseless citizens by those who are supposed to protect them.
He stated, “We were deeply saddened by the news of the horrific killings carried out by some members of the Amotekun Corps in Akinlalu. Our sorrow stems not only from this unfortunate incident but also from our prior warnings to the Osun State Government.”
The organization lamented that their concerns had materialized, asserting that Amotekun had indeed become a rogue entity, leading to the tragic deaths of innocent individuals in Akinlalu.
They criticized the state government's alleged inaction in addressing the incident, remarking that “instead of taking decisive measures to punish the criminals responsible for the act, the government remained indifferent for several days, until the Nigeria Police Force intervened.”
The address continued: “We anticipated that a government facing numerous communal conflicts in less than three years would respond with a sense of urgency.”
However, the group acknowledged the efforts of the Nigeria Police in restoring order and initiating investigations into the killings.
“We sincerely thank the Nigeria Police Force for stepping up and acting in the interest of law and order,” they expressed.
They also urged the police to conduct a transparent investigation, emphasizing that all individuals involved in the crime should face the full consequences of the law.
The group called on the Osun State Government to fully cooperate with the police “not only to ensure that those responsible are held accountable but also to preserve whatever remains of the dignity of the Osun State Amotekun.”
Additionally, Ayo Ologun, another member of the group, advocated for a complete overhaul and leadership change within the Amotekun Corps.
Earlier reports from DAILY POST indicated that following the Akinlalu killings, the Nigeria Police sealed off the Osun Amotekun base office in Okefia, Osogbo, and the Ife Central local government office.
The Nigeria Police also summoned the Amotekun leadership for questioning as part of the investigation into the incident.
DAILY POST previously reported that Osun Amotekun personnel had descended upon Akinlalu town on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, and allegedly killed several townspeople whom they accused of being hoodlums, seizing two rifles from them.
In response to the incident, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke directed that all parties involved cooperate with the Nigerian Police to uncover the circumstances leading to this unfortunate event.
