The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Olufemi Oluyede, has stated that the issues of insecurity in Nigeria will continue if information is poorly managed.
Oluyede made this remark on Wednesday during his screening by lawmakers at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
He mentioned that, although significant strides have been made in enhancing national security, there is still much work to be accomplished.
“My tenure has been quite challenging, and while we have seen tremendous improvements, there is always room for enhancement.
“It necessitates a comprehensive societal approach. It is crucial for everyone to contribute to making Nigeria safer,” he added.
While addressing lawmakers during the screening, Oluyede highlighted the substantial demands of military leadership and the sacrifices necessary to uphold national security.
“It requires relevant experience, sleepless nights, and complete dedication to the safety of our nation. We all understand that resources are limited, but Nigeria must develop its own capacity to tackle emerging security threats, ranging from terrorism to cybercrime.
“If we do not manage information effectively, our challenges will continue,” he emphasized.
The new CDS underscored the significance of enhancing local defense capabilities and creating indigenous solutions to national security issues.
