He looked back to his sharp best when he assisted the fourth goal in the rout, but his jubilation wouldn’t last long.
Davies left the field again in the 71st minute clutching his hamstring – the same area he just had an injury – and tried to cover his face with the Bayern jersey to hide his tears.
His Munich team-mates tried to console the 25-year-old and even boss put his arms around the distraught star.
Despite the pain of yet another injury in a difficult few years for the wing-back, Davies did find some solace with his parents after the game in Italy.
Davies arrived at the chic Villa Moroni venue at 12:28 a.m, according to German outlet Bild , and met up with his mother Victoria and father Debeah.
Bayern’s chief executive would give a speech at the banquet and he offered some words of comfort to the Canadian skipper.
Dreesen said: “Phonzy, I just saw you running onto the pitch – yes, we all really felt for Phonzy today. That’s why I sincerely wish you a speedy recovery, that it’s not too serious. We’ll examine it more closely tomorrow.”
It’s been a nightmare couple of years for Davies with injuries with 2025 particularly debilitating.
He was sidelined for almost nine months starting in March with a torn cruciate ligament with cartilage damage in his right knee.
Since the start of 2026, he has caught the flu, suffered the torn muscle fiber in February and just 17 days later, he limps off with another injury.
Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl has reiterated the club’s support for Davies as he continues to try and find full fitness.
He said: “He was really out for a very, very long time. He fights his way back, gets set back again, fights back again, gets set back again.
“It’s extremely frustrating. We will support him, we will carry him, because we will need him at the end of the season.”
