NON-LEAGUE star Alex Fletcher is “showing small signs of improvement”, his parents have confirmed.
But the 23-year-old Bath City forward remains in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a serious head injury on Tuesday.
Fletcher collided with an advertising hoarding five minutes into a National League South clash against Dulwich Hamlet at Twerton Park.
The game was abandoned 25 minutes later and Fletcher was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
He underwent emergency brain surgery and was admitted to intensive care.
Now his parents have offered an update on his condition, sharing the news that Fletcher’s condition has improved slightly.
A statement from Bath City, on behalf of Fletcher’s parents, said: “Alex remains in a critical condition in intensive care but is starting to show small signs of improvement.
“The care and treatment he is receiving from the doctors and nurses is beyond words, and the love, support and messages of goodwill that the whole football world has sent to Alex has been completely overwhelming.
“We sincerely thank each and everyone for sending them and we pray that Alex will continue to make progress in the days ahead.”
The club confirmed boss Jerry Gill remains in daily contact with Fletcher’s parents.
A Bath City fan has started a fundraiser to support Fletcher’s family.
The GoFundMe page had raised close to £8,000 within a day of being set up.
Bath confirmed on Thursday that two first-team fixtures had been postponed, while the women’s team have also had a game called off following Fletcher’s injury.
