Non-league match ABANDONED after player crashes head-first into advertising board with ambulance called

A NATIONAL League South fixture was abandoned after a player crashed head first into an advertising boarding.

The game between Dulwich Hamlet and Bath City had been playing for around five minutes before the stoppage occurred due to the injury to Alex Fletcher.

Alex Fletcher was involved in horrific injury

Bath City confirmed an ambulance had been called following the incident.

They said: “Fletcher collided with an advertising hoarding in the early stages of the game and we are awaiting an ambulance at Twerton Park.”

Bath City then said the game would be abandoned and rescheduled 16 minutes later.

They confirmed: “This evening’s game has been abandoned and will be played at a later date.

“Everyone at the club is deeply saddened by tonight’s events and it has been agreed that the game will not resume.

“Our best wishes and thoughts are with Alex Fletcher.”

They later added: “We will update supporters on Fletcher’s condition at the earliest opportunity.”

Dulwich Hamlet added: “Due to the serious injury sustained by Alex Fletcher, both teams have agreed to abandon the game.

“For now the most important thing is the safety and recovery of Alex, and from everyone connected with Dulwich, we wish him a speedy and full recovery.”

The two sides are having polarizing season’s in relation to one another.

Bath are just outside of the playoff positions to potentially earn a spot in the National League – the division below the Football League.

Meanwhile, Dulwich Hamlet are teetering precariously above the relegation zone.

The South London side shot to fame as a hipster club after young bearded trendies turned them almost overnight into one of the most popular clubs in non-league football.
