The Benue State House of Assembly has once again modified the legislation guiding the name of the state-owned university in Makurdi, settling on a more concise title.
Under the fresh amendment, the institution will now be officially called Father Adasu University, Makurdi, replacing the longer Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.
Lawmakers reached the decision during Thursday’s plenary after considering the report of the House Standing Committee on Higher Education.
Leading the debate, Majority Leader Mr. Saater Tiseer (APC/Mbagwa) explained that the earlier name, “Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi,” was unnecessarily lengthy.
DAILY POST recalls that the school was originally known as Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi until it was first renamed in December 2024.
During the same session, the Assembly also approved amendments upgrading the College of Education, Katsina-Ala and the College of Education, Oju into degree-awarding institutions.
Presiding Speaker Mr Alfred Emberga instructed the House Clerk Dr Bem Mela to read the bills for a third time before declaring them passed.
