Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has identified four nations as contenders for the title at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a recent episode of Global Football Insights, Oliseh named Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon, and Senegal as the primary competitors for the AFCON title in Morocco.
According to the former Juventus midfielder, while most teams require just one standout player to be in contention for the title, Nigeria boasts two exceptional talents: Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.
When asked if Nigeria should be regarded as title contenders for AFCON, Oliseh agreed, stating: “Most teams need one star player to perform and claim the championship. Nigeria is fortunate to have two. We have Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.”
“I genuinely believe the Super Eagles can secure the AFCON title. For the Super Eagles to be considered title contenders, we need to enhance our defensive structure.”
“If the forwards are to attack effectively, they require support from the defenders and midfielders for pull-outs, crosses, and passes similar to what you’ve seen lately from [Alex] Iwobi,” he added.
Oliseh also mentioned, “I consider Egypt to be one of the title contenders. They are currently the most impressive team from a comprehensive perspective.”
“Cameroon is another contender, as they have a revitalized team. This squad is young and aggressive. The physical commitment that Cameroon is demonstrating is remarkable.”
“They aim to make a statement, and defensively, the Cameroonians are robust.”
“Senegal is the most experienced team in this tournament to date. Sadio Mane continues to impress me.”
“People often underestimate the Saudi league, claiming it lacks the intensity of European leagues, yet we see players like Sadio Mane performing at a high level at his age, leading the team and maintaining physical dominance.”
“I am impressed by Senegal's performance, and I view them as strong title contenders.”
