Chippa United's manager, Vusumuzi Vilakazi, has expressed uncertainty regarding Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali’s chances of participating in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Vilakazi clarified that Nwabali is still in the process of recovering from an injury he incurred while on international duty with the Super Eagles in Morocco.
He mentioned that the goalkeeper requires a hand surgery.
“I don’t believe he [Stanley] will be able to attend the 2025 AFCON, but during our conversation, he was optimistic about recovering very soon,” Vilakazi shared with SuperSport.
“It is an ankle injury, but additionally, the hand requires an operation since he has been playing with that [injured] hand for some time now, and he exacerbated the injury while he was in Morocco.”
Nwabali has been Nigeria’s primary goalkeeper even before Eric Chelle was appointed as the head coach of the Super Eagles a few months ago.
