Algeria's captain, Riyad Mahrez, has expressed his belief that Nigeria could triumph and win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Mahrez was unable to assist his team in avoiding elimination at the hands of the Super Eagles, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

However, the Al-Ahli winger has previously won the AFCON title in 2013 and maintains that he is content with that single achievement.

“I’m pleased to have won one AFCON trophy for my country. In football, sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose,” Mahrez shared with Naija Sports.

“Perhaps it will be Nigeria's time to shine. They have a talented generation. Yet, it's important to note that having a strong generation doesn’t always guarantee victory.

“Winning is incredibly challenging, but I believe they have a solid chance.”
