Burkina Faso's technical director, Vincenzo Alberto Annese, has identified Nigeria as the favorite to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and has also recognized Victor Osimhen as the tournament's most formidable striker.
Nigeria is set to face Algeria in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.
He noted that Nigeria's forward, Osimhen, poses the greatest threat throughout the tournament.
The Super Eagles lead the tournament in goals scored, netting a total of 12 goals contributed by seven different players.
Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have combined to score half of those goals.
Annese praised the Super Eagles for their potent attacking style and believes they rank among the top contenders for the title, alongside Ivory Coast.
In an interview with the Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Annese stated, “Nigeria possesses a strong attacking force; they are among the elite teams, along with Ivory Coast, but I believe they are more dependable.”
He offered high praise for Osimhen, referring to him as the best center-forward in the tournament.
“Additionally, the Super Eagles have Osimhen, who I consider to be the strongest center-forward in the competition. I observed the World Cup qualifiers, and when Osimhen is absent, Nigeria's performance significantly changes,” he remarked.
With 34 goals to his credit, Osimhen is just three goals shy of equaling Rashidi Yekini's record as Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer.
