What is the technology that makes them so good?
Adizero adios Pro Evo 3 is the brand’s lightest and fastest racing shoe ever, weighing an average of 97 grams. That is 30 per cent lighter than its predecessor, the Pro Evo 2.
Part of that is due to the Lightstrike Pro Evo, which is adidas’ lightest and most responsive foam to date.
The brand reports that it is nearly 50 per cent lighter than previous iterations “while maximizing cushioning, propulsion and energy return with a 39mm stack”.
Sawe’s super-shoe also features “ENERGYRIM”. Adidas explains: “It is a breakthrough carbon-integrated design that redefines how stiffness and propulsion are delivered in a supershoe, reimagining the interplay between foam and carbon for peak performance.”
The brand revealed that it has taken three years of cutting edge research to produce the shoe, with “more than a dozen iterations tested in labs in Herzogenaurach and high-altitude camps in Kenya and Ethiopia”.
What do adidas say about them?
Patrick Nava, adidas’ general manager of running, says: “Creating the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 pushed us to think differently from the very start.
“We weren’t just trying to improve on what we’d done before, we wanted to see how far we could go. We went through more than a dozen iterations, working closely with our athletes and testing everywhere from our labs in Herzogenaurach to high-altitude camps in Kenya and Ethiopia.
“At that level, every detail really matters – we were measuring things down to the nearest nanogram.
“It was a long process, but it’s led to something we believe genuinely changes what a race-day shoe can feel like.”
What alternatives to the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 are there?
There are many alternatives to the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3.
Here are some that Sun Sport has tested and recommends:

Asics Novablast 5 – £135 (down to £110 on Sports Direct) – Great all-rounders perfect for any average runner, these were what I used for my marathon and LOVED them
Asics GT-2000 14 – £140 (also reduced to as low as £82.50 on Sports Direct) – One of Asics’ most reliable shoes with the same energy-returning foam as the Novablast 5, but also designed with comfort and stability in mind.
Asics Superblast 3 – £200 – The new ‘super trainer’ from Asics that will no doubt be spotted all over London on April 26, comes in ‘cobalt’, ‘seashell’ or white.
Brooks Glycerin 23 – £165 – Superb all-round shoes, offering significant cushioning that ensures plush landings even after 20 miles.
Brooks Glycerin Flex – £165 – Another great shoe for “luxurious landings” and flexibility that will support you all over, all the way around.
On Cloudrunner 3 – £140 – Another stability shoe that puts support and comfort at the forefront of its design, while still having that responsiveness required for a late kick.
Nike Vomero Plus – £155 – One of the best shoes out there. Bouncy and comfortable, but picking up the pace feels almost effortless, and these would act as a very good ‘one and done’ shoe.
Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 – £250 – Not cheap but, with the help of carbon fibre technology, they do promise to “help you smash your personal best with ease”.
