Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has announced that Governor Ademola Adeleke is set to reveal his new political party before December 13, following his official departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeleke’s resignation, communicated in a letter submitted on November 4 to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, was confirmed on Monday.

While speaking during a political program on Rave FM in Osogbo on Tuesday, Alimi attributed the governor’s exit to persistent internal disputes within the PDP.

“The governor of Osun State has officially withdrawn from the Peoples Democratic Party. He submitted his resignation letter some time ago,” Alimi stated.

He urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the governor despite the political changes.

“We appreciate the public for their support and ask them to stay steadfast. The governor draws strength from the people,” he added, referencing a Yoruba proverb that implies a leader's security is rooted in the support of the populace.

Alimi elaborated that Adeleke’s decision was influenced by unresolved conflicts within the PDP, particularly at the national level, in light of the upcoming 2026 governorship election and the imminent December 15 deadline for party nominations set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The governor is pleased with the public's reactions. If it weren't for the deep-rooted crisis at the national level, which is crucial for nomination processes, he would not have left the PDP,” he remarked.

“With our election approaching in August and the nomination window closing soon, the governor had to make a pragmatic decision.”

In response to claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Adeleke’s departure, Alimi dismissed them as false.

“The APC is merely pretending. Their intention was for him to remain in a fractured PDP so they could contest his candidacy. However, Adeleke is ahead of them,” he asserted.

Regarding Adeleke’s next political platform, Alimi mentioned that consultations are ongoing and that clarity will emerge in the coming days.

“By December 12 or 13, everyone will know where the governor is headed,” he stated. “He has already resigned, and the timeline for party primaries and nominations concludes on December 15.”

Alimi maintained that Adeleke’s resignation was unnecessary and would not have happened if the PDP had remained united at the national level.
