ADAM PEATY experienced a reality check on his return to the pool for the first time since getting married.

came fourth on Saturday night at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet in the men’s 100 metres breaststroke – his signature discipline.

Peaty, 31, was fastest at the 50-metre turn in 28.06 seconds but faded slightly down the home straight as he posted a time of 1:00.74.

Exciting 19-year-old Filip Nowacki, from Millfield, won the race in 1:00.26, while Gregory Butler (1:00.37) and teenager Max Morgan (1:00.54) finished second and third respectively.

It is a far cry from his world record of 56.88 seconds, which was set at his peak in in 2019.

This was Peaty’s first major long-course event since the .

It was also the first such event to , daughter of chef , at Bath Abbey last December.

The pair reportedly met in 2021 through Holly’s sister Tilly, who was competing on alongside the champ.

They announced their engagement in September 2024, months after Peaty wrapped up his Paris Olympics campaign, thought it would take over a year before the couple finally got to read their vows.

The celebrity ceremony was attended by former captain but was with Peaty’s mother.

Peaty, a two-time Olympic breaststroke champion, is aiming to compete at two major events this summer.

First he has the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July and then, shortly after that, there are the European Championships in Paris.

In preparation for this weekend’s swim, Peaty headed to the Gold Coast in Australia last month for a training camp with old coach Mel Marshall.
