Amidst rumors of a potential switch to the Labour Party, stakeholders from the Ukwa Federal Constituency in Abia State assert their loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside their representative, Hon. Chris Nkwonta.
Reports from DAILY POST indicate that the rise of Alex Otti as governor has prompted several politicians to leave their parties in favor of the Labour Party.
This situation may have contributed to the recent speculation regarding Nkwonta's possible transition to the ruling party in the state.
The lawmaker has publicly rejected these claims in recent days.
His constituents have also dismissed the alleged defection, labeling it as the work of troublemakers.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by Chief Macaulay Ekeke and Barr. Obiche Nwaubani, the Chairman and Secretary of the Ukwa Unity Forum (UUF), they strongly condemned those spreading the rumor.
They attributed the rumors to desperate politicians lacking integrity, who are unable to present any accomplishments from their previous terms in office representing the Ukwa constituency.
The Forum expressed that, in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, various forms of negative media narratives are being propagated by unsuccessful politicians.
They claimed that the rumors originated from the residence of a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ukwa East Local Government Area, where a sum of N3 million was allegedly mobilized.
“The conspirators from Ukwa have gathered like vultures and scavengers, attempting to mislead their unsuspecting targets to their downfall.
We want to caution them that they have failed. The media propaganda is futile from the outset. Hon. Nkwonta remains with the APC, and we stand by him.
They are merely blinded and will ultimately face failure and regret. We are aware of the backgrounds of those supporting them; they operate in darkness because they have let down the people of Ukwa and are currently seeking relevance. Yet, after twenty years, there is no legacy to validate their representation,” the constituents further asserted.
