Abia State Government has suspended the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, Mr John Pedro Irokansi, over allegations of misconduct.
Irokansi was suspended through a letter dated May 20, 2026, and signed by the Abia State Head of Service, Mr Benson Ojeikere.
The state government appointed Mr Promise Onwukwe, a Deputy Director in the Legislative Department of the Abia State House of Assembly, as Acting Clerk with immediate effect.
Though it did not disclose the nature of the alleged misconduct by Irokansi, the Abia State Government directed the Acting Clerk, Onwukwe, to take full charge of the administration of the office “pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and/or further directives from the appropriate authority.”
The directive further instructed the Acting Clerk to:
“Safeguard all government property, official records, and documents duly handed over to you in accordance with extant regulations.”
Irokansi, an experienced civil servant and Clerk of the Abia State House of Assembly, has served in that capacity under three administrations in Abia State, spanning about 16 years.
