Abia State has assured residents that cases of Lassa Fever being confirmed in some States of the Federation have not been identified in the State.

The State also said its Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies have mounted surveillance at all border towns linking Abia with other States, to ensure that the disease does not get into Abia.

Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu stated this at Government House, Umuahia, on Monday while briefing journalists about the outcome of Execution Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

β€œIn the State, Lassa Fever which has broken out in some parts of the State has not been noticed here.

β€œThe Ministry of health staff and other relevant agencies are working assiduously to make sure that all border towns leading into the State are kept under surveillance,” he said.

The government denied the report that the Senior Citizens Law No.4 signed by Governor Alex Otti was designed to share money to aged people in the State.

It rather explained that the law is to provide social services such as food and nutrition support, health support for aged vulnerable persons, provision of gift and housing support for them, as well as care for their mental needs.
