Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has pledged that any attempts to manipulate the 2027 election will be met with lawful and legitimate resistance.

While speaking in Enugu on Wednesday, Obi emphasized the importance of early verification of candidates' academic records to prevent pre-election disputes.

Obi made these remarks during his formal announcement of his defection to the opposition coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He stated: “We have all witnessed those who have benefited from our democracy now becoming accomplices to its degradation, either through coercion or intimidation against the opposition.

“We cannot allow this to continue; we will stand against it. We are now observing individuals celebrating electoral fraud openly.

“And we are declaring that those who intend to rig the elections in Nigeria in 2027 will face our resistance through every lawful and legitimate means.”
