The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed that at least four sitting governors from opposition parties are currently in advanced negotiations to join the ruling party before the conclusion of 2025.
The APC stated that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance its influence and expand its presence in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, the party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, made this announcement during an interview, naming the governors of Plateau, Taraba, Rivers, and Abia states as the individuals being courted.
“It is likely that the governor of Plateau will join us, as well as his counterpart from Taraba. We are also looking forward to welcoming the governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State into our ranks,” Arodiogbu stated.
He mentioned that discussions with these governors have progressed significantly and that their defection could occur “in the coming weeks.”
“These are all strong possibilities. We anticipate that these defections will take place in the weeks leading up to our congresses. Most of these transitions are expected to happen before the end of this year. Once they occur, it will further affirm that the APC remains the leading and most organized political platform in Nigeria,” he asserted.
Arodiogbu credited the party’s growing influence to its reform-oriented agenda and inclusive approach, which he noted continue to attract prominent political figures from across the country.
He added, “The reality is that the APC has evolved into a home for all progressives. Our growth is not only in numbers but also in the quality of leadership. Governors and other political figures are increasingly recognizing that this party offers stability and direction for Nigeria’s democracy.”
According to him, the national chairman has consistently maintained an open-door policy for politicians wishing to join the party.
“The national chairman has stressed that the APC remains welcoming to all. We are inviting individuals of goodwill who support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.
Arodiogbu expressed confidence that the anticipated defections would strengthen the APC ahead of the 2025 congresses and enhance the party’s chances for the 2027 elections.
