Sunday Udeh-Okoye, the former National Youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has anticipated a decisive victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State during the 2027 general election.
This assertion follows a significant number of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defecting to the ruling APC.
Having recently transitioned from PDP to APC, Udeh-Okoye stated that the upcoming presidential election will be an easy win for the ruling party in the state.
“In the next election, it will be a landslide for the APC in Enugu,” he proclaimed.
When questioned if APC could secure the presidential election in Enugu with Peter Obi on the ballot, the former PDP leader asserted that the ruling party would triumph “regardless of who is on the ballot.”
He explained that the APC has effectively taken over the PDP's structure in Enugu, emphasizing that Peter Obi’s candidacy and his Obidient movement will not hinder the APC's success in the state.
Udeh-Okoye noted that Obi, who represented the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, succeeded in defeating APC in Enugu because the party lacked a solid structure at that time.
“Those who secured victories for the party back then were not part of APC; now we are all in APC. No matter who you support in any political party, I assure you, APC will emerge victorious in Enugu State,” he added.
He refuted claims that residents of the Southeast would refrain from voting for APC, stating that the Enugu Government possesses adequate campaign materials and that Governor Mbah has fulfilled his commitments to the people of Enugu.
Udeh-Okoye expressed confidence that Ndigbo will rally behind APC, attributing the region's previous reluctance towards the ruling party to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s perceived attitude towards the area.
With Governor Mbah's switch to APC, three out of the five states in the Southeast are now governed by the ruling party.
