Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has stated that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), will not resort to federal government force to secure electoral victories in Abia State in 2027.
He emphasized that the party intends to unseat the current ruling Labour Party through the power of the people's votes.
Kalu made this announcement in Umuahia on Sunday while addressing members of the Renewed Hope Partners and other APC affiliates.
He encouraged the people of Abia, particularly APC members, to acquire their voter cards during the ongoing continuous voter registration, asserting that these cards would be instrumental in removing the current Abia government by 2027.
“We will not seize control of this state through force. Some people claim we intend to use federal power, but that's not the case!”
“We will rely on the votes of the masses,” Kalu stated.
He criticized the Labour Party (LP)-led administration in Abia State for its lackluster performance, arguing that two former governors, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu, achieved better outcomes with approximately 3 and 4 billion Naira in monthly FAAC allocations compared to the larger amounts currently received by the state.
Kalu expressed confidence that the people of Abia are ready to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in 2027, citing his numerous achievements and the financial resources he is providing to Abia and other state governors.
The Deputy Speaker revealed that some individuals in Abia have been directing insults at him for recently speaking candidly about the Abia State government, but he vowed to continue his role as “the leader of the opposition in the state.”
