Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has called on Nigerians to value and support Eric Chelle’s team as they prepare to compete against the Benin Republic in Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo.

Troost-Ekong emphasized that everyone must share the responsibility, as the match against the Benin Republic is not one that the coach or the Super Eagles players can win alone.

The former Watford defender also encouraged his teammates to elevate their performance against the Benin Republic.

Nigeria approaches the match following a 2-1 victory over Lesotho last Friday.

“It is a very challenging task to describe to anyone, considering the emotions and pressure involved,” Troost-Ekong stated during his pre-match press conference on Monday.

“This is not a game that I, the coach, or the players can win by ourselves. We need to take on a shared responsibility; everyone must rise to the occasion.

“And of course, when playing in the stadium, I would love to see it filled. I hope that tomorrow everyone will recognize this and rally behind the team.”
