A political affairs analyst, Majeed Dahiru, states that the failure to implement zoning in 2023 is the root cause of the significant crisis and defections within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Dahiru characterized this decision as a grave error, which he claims has triggered widespread defections and undermined the party’s national unity.
According to DAILY POST, the most recent wave of defections includes a governor who has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress.
During an appearance on ARISE News Night on Tuesday, Dahiru elaborated that Governor Mbah’s defection reflects more profound issues within the PDP.
“Before he mentioned aligning with the center, he made a critical observation: the South-East region, particularly Enugu State, has been a loyal and consistent support base for the PDP since 1998.
“Yet, their concerns were overlooked, and the party took the region for granted. This neglect is the true driving force behind these defections,” he remarked.
He noted that while some governors may be drawn to the ruling party for access to the presidency and national caucus, the primary reason for the defections is the PDP’s disregard for zoning.
