The grisly discovery has sent shockwaves through the city of Asahikawa, , where the couple lived together.
Suzuki was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of mutilating a corpse, with now probing whether the case could escalate into a full murder .
The alleged offence is believed to have taken place around 31 March.
Alarm bells were raised weeks later when relatives reported his wife, Yui Suzuki, missing on 23 April after losing contact with her in late March.

On the same day, officers tracked Suzuki down at his workplace – where he had turned up as normal.
He agreed to be questioned voluntarily.
But the case took a dark turn when officers later recovered parts of the 33-year-old woman’s remains.
Suzuki reportedly admitted to investigators: “I disposed of my wife’s body in the incinerator.”
In an even more chilling twist, he is believed to have told Yui before the incident: “I’ll burn you completely so nothing remains.”
Police are now working to piece together exactly what happened -including whether Suzuki was directly responsible for his wife’s death.
During questioning, he is said to have hinted at involvement, with authorities now weighing up a possible murder charge.
The unfolded at Asahiyama Zoo – one of Japan’s most popular tourist attractions.
The site had been preparing to reopen for the busy season on Wednesday, but the launch was abruptly delayed until today (1 May) as investigators swarmed the scene.
Locals have been left stunned by the allegations.
One man described Suzuki as “quiet”, telling local media: “He often walked the dog with his wife, and they seemed like a close couple.”
