The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the leadership of the state wing of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in the fight against criminal elements in the state.

The commandant of the corps, Sani Mustapha, stated that criminals would not be tolerated and must be prosecuted if caught.

Mustapha made these remarks during a meeting with the newly-elected executive members of the Nigeria Bar Association at the state command headquarters of the corps in Gusau, the state capital.

Mustapha noted that the corps operates within the legal framework of its establishment Act, carrying out functions within the legal purview as stipulated in the enabling Act of 2003 and 2007, as amended.

He assured the NBA leadership of the corps’ readiness to leverage the professional advice of the legal group to enhance the smooth prosecution of criminal elements seeking to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

Mustapha also praised the Commandant General, Abubakar Ahmed Audi, for the corps’ laudable programmes, particularly maintaining the Alternative Dispute Resolution Unit under the Peace and Conflict Resolution programme.

The commandant expressed confidence that the NBA would play a crucial role in ensuring the success of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in the state, urging the association to collaborate with the Corps and other sister agencies to ensure a safer Zamfara State.

Speaking earlier, the state chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Barrister Muazu Shehu Ahmed, who led the delegation, commended the NSCDC in Zamfara State and the nation at large.

He described the corps as the last hope of the common man and acknowledged its creditable performance in safeguarding the rights of ordinary citizens and combating brigandage in the state.

He assured the Corps of the NBA’s support and assistance to facilitate the successful prosecution of suspected criminals in Zamfara State.
